Hello! I’m Hannah, a fully certified Nutritional Therapist / Functional Medicine Practitioner; Metabolic Balance® Coach; SWAMI practitioner and Zest4life motivational coach.
I graduated from the UK College of Nutrition and Health (BCNH) in 2006. I’ve since lived and practiced in Chicago, New York and London. I now work in-person with my London-based clients and consult online with clients worldwide (in the USA, Europe, New Zealand, UAE and Ireland).
MY APPROACH
The bulk of my clients approach me with weight issues, digestive problems and autoimmune / inflammatory conditions. However, I support clients with all types of ailments.
Twenty years in practice have helped me gain an extensive amount of experience and knowledge in order to resolve a wide range of conditions. It’s also extremely rare to come across an individual with only one symptom or condition. This is because our bodies are an ‘ecosystem’ – everything is interconnected. Dysfunction in one organ can often disturb the performance of one or more other organs. Fortunately, identifying the root cause(s) of one ‘diagnosed’ condition or symptom, and eliminating these underlying factors, commonly causes multiple symptoms & conditions to improve together.
This is the reason why I use the ‘functional medicine’ approach in my practice. When we take time to discuss your ‘genetic’ heritage; health history; environmental exposures; activity levels; emotional state, and diet, it means we gain insight into, and can address, all the underlying causes of your unique set of presenting symptoms. For example, one person’s Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) might be due to a magnesium deficiency, high stress levels and the inclusion of specific foods. Another individual’s IBS could be being driven by the presence of ‘troublesome’ gut bacteria & yeast; low stomach acid output; B12 deficiency and poor liver function.
OLIGOSCAN – NUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES AND HEAVY METAL TOXICITY TEST
In 2014, I invested in the Medical-Grade Oligoscan spectrophotometry device. Our bodies use vitamins and minerals for the construction and function of ALL our cells. Detecting and rectifying sub-optimal nutrient levels has helped me expedite my clients’ paths to wellness.
The Oligoscan test detects nutrient levels within tissues, as opposed to blood. Blood tests only reveals nutrients being transported around the body at a moment in time (but these may not necessarily be taken up and utilised by cells). Oligoscan determines, right from the outset, whether someone’s health is being hampered by something as simple as a lack of vitamins or minerals required to build and run their body effectively.
In more complex cases, I may recommend specific NHS tests or functional laboratory tests to find answers. This might include a comprehensive stool test; liver function test; neurotransmitter/brain chemical test; sex and stress hormone test, or viral panel test.
FOOD IS MEDICINE
As a nutritionist, an important role of mine is to help clients understand that food is not just fuel for our bodies. It’s VERY powerful medicine. It has an incredible ability to assist healing. Conversely, some foods have the power to act as ‘poison’ and trigger poor health. My aim is to inform and empower my clients to be discerning about their food choices. Their diet can support their body’s natural ability to repair and regenerate.
I aim to offer achievable, realistic, enjoyable dietary and lifestyle recommendations. I love to inspire my clients with delicious, easy recipes, using clean, simple wholefood ingredients. If cooking is a challenge time-wise, then I also offer guidance on the healthiest ready-made meals, take-outs and restaurant meals.
I’m always very happy to answer any questions you may have before committing to a nutrition session. A discussion can help us determine the best route to take to achieve your health goals.
