Roderick Brenninkmeijer

My name is Roderick Brenninkmeijer. I am a BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor. My approach is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic, existential and humanistic thinking. I adapt this to suit the individual in front of me rather than working to a fixed method.

I trained at Regent’s University London School of Psychotherapy and Counselling. Gaining a Postgraduate Diploma was followed by an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling. I also hold an MA in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Social and Organisational Psychology from the University of Exeter. I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society.

Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent twenty years in international business and leadership. This has given me a firsthand understanding of the pressures of professional and leadership life. I have also worked for a low cost counselling service, seeing clients from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances. My years of experience as a volunteer for the Samaritans has shaped how I listen and how I sit with difficulty.

As well as my private practice at the Brackenbury Clinic, I also work as a psychotherapist and counsellor at the Royal Academy of Music. Seeing musicians and performers navigating the particular pressures of a life in the arts has given me a particular interest in performance anxiety, perfectionism, and the strain of working in highly competitive environments.

I offer a space where you can put things as they actually are, without needing to tidy them up first. My aim is to help you understand what is happening for you, why it might be happening, and what could shift as a result of being properly heard.

I work with adults facing a broad range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, feeling lost, relationship problems. Other issues might include, life transitions, burnout, and the sense of being successful on the outside while something remains unresolved within.
