Paula Tome – Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist (MA, Msc, MBACP, BPC)
I am a psychodynamic therapist working in person with children, young people and their families as well as adults. I have worked in state educational primary and secondary settings and third sector addressing a variety of issues such as behaviour, depression, anxiety, relationships, bereavement, neurodivergence, disordered eating, gender, trauma, self-harm and suicidality.
I trained with the Tavistock and Portman and qualified with Birkbeck University of London (Msc). I am accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also a full member of the Birkbeck Counselling Association. I am insured and can provide sessions in English and Portuguese.
How I work
It is very difficult to feel alone with a problem that we think cannot be shared or understood. Therapy aims to help alleviate psychological loneliness through connection and understanding. Psychodynamic therapy is a type of talking therapy that tries to explore the unconscious motivations behind behaviour and emotions. However, I do not see myself as an expert in your life and work in a very relational way to help you make sense of your worries, patterns of behaviour and relationships. I believe that a safe space, a supportive, interested relationship, and a warm, non-judgemental approach can help you think and re-discover the inner resilience needed to move forward with confidence and creativity.
How the sessions work
You start by getting in touch with me by email with a brief outline of what is worrying you. We can then try and arrange a time to meet. If we decide that we can work together, we meet in person weekly. The sessions take place at the same time and place and last 50 minutes.
FEES
First session: £80/50 – 90mins
Regular sessions: £80/50mins
