Jo Mallabar

Jo Mallabar PGDip, UKCP & FPC Registered.

In a completely confidential, open and non-judgemental environment I aim to help you explore whatever is on your mind at a pace that feels right for you.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an in-depth way of looking at your problems. It can be short-term and focussed on a particular issue or open-ended.

At each step we work together to explore alternative ways to move forward in your life. To achieve this we also look back, uncovering any repetitive patterns of behaviour and understanding how they may be contributing to what you feel is going wrong.

Psychotherapy can help with all kinds of problems from difficulties with relationships, a frustrated career, anxiety and depression, or simply feeling misunderstood and confused about who you are and what you want.

Some but by no means all of the areas I work with include:

  • Anxiety, depression and stress
  • Career problems
  • Difficulty forming meaningful and lasting relationships
  • Family issues including relationships with parents, siblings and children
  • Feeling held back by traumatic childhood experiences
  • Identity
  • Life transitions such as going to university, establishing a career, becoming a parent and facing retirement
  • Living with long term illness
  • Loss
  • Low self esteem
  • Suicidal thoughts

My therapy practise begins with a no obligation first meeting where we explore what brings you to therapy now, your hopes for the future, and get to know each other a little and see how we work together.

We can then decide to have a second exploratory meeting or make the decision to begin therapy and agree a regular day and time to meet each week. Going forward sessions usually take place once weekly and last 50 minutes.

As a professional member of the UKCP and the FPC, I always adhere to professional standards and abide by their codes of practice, ethics and confidentiality.

Taking that first step and beginning the journey takes courage.

That’s why it’s so important you feel comfortable and safe with your therapist.

Over a number of years I have helped people of all ages and from all walks of life. This experience was gained providing psychotherapy in WPF Therapy’s busy London Bridge Clinic and within community mental health services in West London. My former career at a senior level in editing and publishing gave me first-hand experience of the pressures and stress of modern-day London living.

All of this means I can approach your problems and feelings, whatever they may be, with a mature, understanding and open mind.

I trained at WPF Therapy and hold a post graduate qualification in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton.
